Hike description:A walk to Kaena Point is always an exciting adventure.  The area is managed by the State as a Natural Area Reserve, and is open to the public, in groups of 10 or less.  In addition to the dramatic shoreline scenery, a hiker may encounter a number of species of nesting shorebirds.  Be sure to stay inside the specified boundaries to protect the endangered birds and plants.  To get there, drive on Farrington Highway past Waialua until you reach the parking lot, beyond which the road deteriorates considerably.  Then continue walking along in the same direction, following the road along the shoreline.  After reaching Kaena Point, retrace your steps back to your car.  This outing can be particularly exciting during the winter months with big waves crashing onto the shoreline.
