During World War II, Midway's claim to fame was being the location of a decisive battle. There are still visible signs of the war, however, the atoll has a different identity. It is a center for eco-tourism and is our newest wildlife reserve. From this perspective, we will view the fish and the birds. Bring a snorkel and cookies to share or pay $1 at the door.

The hum of the H-3 vehicular flow will be at your left as you ascend a side ridge, up to the unpaved dirt road, and on to the trail head and soon it'll be mum as you hike this long graded trail under a tree-canopied forest, up to her vegetated crossover, to the sum of incredulous panoramic views of the windward coastline at her crest. Coordinator John Hall, ph 377-5442.

Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is called the navel of the earth. Mystery shrouds the stone statues. But the Rapanuians are our Polynesian cousins. Jim accompanied the Kamehameha School's Hui Lama Club last June to Rapa Nui and will share his photos and experiences with us. Hopefully, he will present the first digitally projected "slide show" at the clubhouse. Bring Easter eggs or pay $1 at he door.

Jan 3 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY KAMAILE'UNU

(7 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Wai'anae)

Kamaile'unu is the real super hike. You don't even need a reservation! So come out and tackle this hot (cold?), dry (wet?), gnarly (yo), scenic (yes), good for nothing (yeah) ridge.
