Deborah Uchida spent three months in the Himalayas trekking across four mountain ranges to the great Tibetan plateau. These are the lands of alpine meadows, Buddhist monasteries, nomadic people, blizzards and endless days of snowy wilderness peaks -- climbing "into thin air" on a 20,100 foot summit. So dust off your crampons and ice axes and come down to the HTM clubhouse. Bring rice cakes or pay $1.00 at the door.

Jan 25 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY PALEHUA RESERVATIONS REQUIRED: LIMIT OF 15

Feb 1 Sun 8AM MT. OLYMPUS

As the climb steepens, the trail narrows and becomes more difficult; we'll find mud and very steep drop-offs. We finish after a breathless ascent which commands an equally breathtaking view (weather permitting) of Maunawili Valley, the Windward coast, and a peek into the hidden crater - Ka'au. Coordinators Jay Feldman and Will Kawano, ph 539-9734.

Feb 8 Sun HALAWA RIDGE Trail Maintenance

Feb 8 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY KAMAILE'UNU

This twosome recently went to visit three southern provinces of South America and besides enjoying the wine of the region, they did some sight seeing. They saw Iguacu Falls which is five times larger than Niagara Falls, Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire) at the southern tip of South America where Magellan sailed through and the Peninsula Valdes, home of wildlife, like sea lions and right whales. Bring a Spanish interpreter, a Madonna-like creature, a taco or pay $1 at the door.
