Jan 13 Sun 8AM MT. OLYMPUS

(6 Mi/ Intermediate/Ridge/St. Louis Hts.)

A ridge hike that’s mostly up going up and mostly down going down but up and down in both directions. Hmmm, go figure. There are some narrow sections with steep drop offs near the summit. Observe the stop and turn around point, or you may end up on the rim above Ka'au Crater. Coordinator Darrell Teruya, ph 227-4572.

Jan 19 Sat 8AM MAKAPU'U SCRAMBLE

(2 Mi/Advanced Novice/Hillside/Makapu'u)

From the lookout above Makapu'u Beach, we scramble up a rocky slope about 500’, pass bunkers and traverse to a fenced viewpoint where we enjoy the grandeur of the windward side and the lighthouse.  We descend gradually to the cars with a short downhill to the tidal pools.  If the surf is low, we can traverse the shoreline shelf to the Queen’s Throne. Coordinators Joyce and Grant Oka, ph 674-1459.

Jan 20 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY PALEHUA

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED: LIMIT OF 15

No Meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info

(6 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Makakilo)

An uphill road walk leads to a beautiful graded trail.  Views abound at the turn around spot. Keep a sharp eye out for those gorgeous native Hawaiian snails. Due to the potential adverse effect of large numbers of hikers on the fragile ecosystems in the area, the group size is limited. Coordinator Steve Brown, ph 247-8845.

Jan 27 Sun 8AM TRIPLER

(12 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Moanalua)

We’re trying to obtain permission to start this hike from behind Tripler Hospital. Check with the coordinator to be sure. A long up and down climb ends at the Ko'olau crest.  Enjoy views of the windward side to the north and Pearl Harbor to the south. Coordinator Doug Klein, ph 263-8330.

Feb 3 Sun 8AM KUAOKALA

(5 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Makaha)

A beautiful winding trail over pu’u and saddles to the back of Makua Valley.  Share it with friends and family if they are physically prepared. Pay attention so you don’t miss the turns or turn around time. Bring camera, water, and sun protection. Coordinator Justin Ohara, ph 778-8629.

Feb 9 Sat 8AM WAIMANO POOL

(3 Mi/Novice/Valley/Pacific Palisades)

An easy path leads to a steep downhill and then a contour along a hillside until you reach a series of pools. Here we stop for lunch and a cool dip in the water. The route back brings you to that steep uphill aptly nicknamed “cardiac hill”.Coordinator Phil Booth, ph 382-4709.

Feb 10 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY KAMAILE'UNU

(7 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Wai'anae)

Crumbly rocks, narrow sections with drop offs, and some major climbing define this signature HTMC hike. We start at sea level and gain over 3000 feet in 3 miles. Bring more water than you think you’ll need and stash a liter or two along the way. Coordinator Arnold Fujioka, ph 551-0227.

Feb 16-18 Sat-Mon MOKULĖ'IA CAMPOUT

An up and down, highly scenic hike along the rim of Makua Valley leads to an idyllic campsite nestled below the Wai'anae summit. On the middle day, hike to Three Corners, Peacock Flat, or just laze around camp. The water source is a small stream that dries up during drought conditions. Coordinator Larry Lee, ph 263-4690.

Feb 17 Sun 8:30AM MEMBERS ONLY THREE CORNERS

No Meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info

(9 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Mokulė'ia)

Our new route follows the Mokulė'ia Trail to the Wai'anae summit for some magnificent windward and leeward views. At the top we turn left along the Makua rim toward Ka'ala. Our goal is Three Corners, where Ohikilolo ridge joins the main crest. Coordinator Laura Owens, ph 388-5373.

Feb 24 Sun 8AM MOANALUA

(10 Mi/Intermediate/Valley/Moanalua)

You'll walk a pleasant dirt road past historical markers in this beautiful valley, then the trail plunges into a jungle of hau, guava, and native vegetation. You'll crisscross the valley's stream (wet feet?) countless times, before climbing STEEPLY to the summit ridge overlooking Ha'ikü Valley, then return the same way. Coordinator Mike Algiers, ph 422-1048.

Mar 1 Sat 8AM MO'O KAPU O HALOA CIRCUIT

(8 Mi/Intermediate/Valley/Hakipu’u-Ka’a’awa)

Mar 2 Sun 8AM PU'U HELEAKALa

(6 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Nanakuli)

Mar 8 Sat 8AM MEMBERS ONLY WAIaHOLE UKA

No Meeting @ Palace – Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info

(5 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Waiahole)

While many have heard of the Haiku Stairs, fewer have heard of the Waiahole version of the Stairs. There are no actual stairs to aid climbers in Waiahole, but this steep ascent to the Ko'olau summit is akin to its Ha'iku kin. Coordinators Dayle and Jacqueline Turner. Phone 384-4821 (DT) or 386-1373 (JT).

Mar 9 Sun 8AM WAIMANO

(14 Mi/Advanced/Contour/Pearl City)

Mar 15 Sat 8AM PU'U O HULU

(4 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Ma'ili)

A steep, rocky scramble leads to several concrete bunkers where military observers sighted targets for the coastal artillery battery in Kapolei. Mar 15 Sat 6PM CLUBHOUSE - APPRECIATION NIGHT

Mar 23 Sun 8AM MaLAEKAHANA RIDGE

(10 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/La'ie)

If you persevere, this long ridge trail above La'ie will eventually get you to the Ko'olau summit. Most hikers, however, get sidetracked by the lovely pools and the waterfall half way up. Coordinators Kris Corliss & Larry Oswald, ph 638-7268.

No Meeting @ Palace. Meet @ the 1st parking lot on the right, before the public lot.
