Oct 10 Sun 8AM WAIMALU DITCH

A pleasant valley walk along an abandoned water ditch leads to some agreeable swimming holes. Watch out at the slippery stream crossings and under the low hau tangles. Coordinator Stuart Ball, ph 247-5380.

Oct 16 Sat 8AM 'AIEA LOOP
(4 Mi/Novice/Contour/'Aiea)
Enjoy this 4 1/2 mile hike from bottom to top. We'll see great views of H3, the Waianaes and Pearl Harbor as we wend our way through the forest. A great hike for the family. Coordinator Donna Davis-Brown, ph 422-7830.

Oct 16 Sat 6PM CLUBHOUSE - APPRECIATION NIGHT
Our annual Mahalo evening to honor the trail maintenance crew, hike coordinators, directors and committee members is our way of expressing our appreciation for all their kokua. The form of our appreciation is round, flat, and smells great. Get involved and you too may be rewarded with free pizza! Attendance is by invitation only.

Oct 17 Sun 8:00AM MEMBERS ONLY KAHUKU
No meeting at Palace, meet QUIETLY at the field on Po'ohaili St. in La'ie
(12 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Kahuku)
It's a long way to the summit with many ups and downs to test your mettle. Join your good hiking buddies for a good workout with good views. Coordinator Darrell Teruya, phone 227-4572.

Oct 24 Sun 8AM HALAWA RIDGE
(14 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Halawa)
A favorite CCC trail to the Ko'olau summit that's long on mileage, high on elevation gain, strewn with downed trees, and rife with native plants and good views. Coordinator Ken Suzuki, ph 845-4691.

Oct 30 Sat 8AM KAUNALA
(6 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Paumalu)
Enjoy a drive out to Pupukea and hike this cool forest trail that meanders in, up, down, around and back out to where you started. Do not leave any valuables in cars. Coordinator Steve Poor, ph 638-8387.

Oct 31 Sun 8:00AM MEMBERS ONLY PU'U 'OHULEHULE
No meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info
(8 Mi/Advanced/Valley-Ridge/Kahana)
Got costume? Dress up for a party to hobnob with goblins at the end of the most dangerous hike on the island on All Hallow's Eve. Be afraid, be very afraid of the ghostly dropoffs, the steep catlike climbs, and the bewitching views at the summit. Coordinator Larry Lee, phone 263-4690.

Nov 6 Sat 8AM 5TH ANNUAL ALL WAHINE HIKE - LIKEKE
(6 Mi/Intermediate/Hillside/Kane'ohe)
This is a truly pleasurable hike, a garden with views, along the windward foothills between the Pali and Wilson tunnels. Kudos to Dick Davis, the first to blaze this trail. Coordinator Joyce Oka, ph 674-1459.

Nov 7 Sun 8AM TRIPLER
(12 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Moanalua)
We gain this ridge from Moanalua Valley and climb toward the summit amidst native plants, an occasional native bird, and glorious views of Central O'ahu and the Windward side. Expect some narrow sections and steep dropoffs to negotiate. Coordinators Jay Feldman, ph 842-9596 and Wil Kawano, ph 373-1492.

Nov 13 Sat 8AM LUA'ALAEA
(2 Mi/Intermediate/Valley/Manoa)
A pleasant little waterfall to the right of Manoa Falls is our destination as we skirt the flumes, the mule's foot ferns, and other interesting vegetation. Coordinator Roy Kikuta, ph 623-2427.

Nov 13 Sat 9AM CLUBHOUSE WORKDAY
Come join the gang to groom the property & clean the clubhouse. Then hang out for a while or go to the beach in preparation for the evening's activities.

Nov 13 Sat CLUBHOUSE POTLUCK / SLIDE SHOW
5:00 pm Potluck
7: 00 pm Slide Show
Join your hiking friends for a potluck/cookout at our Waimanalo clubhouse. As the highlight of the evening, Nathan Yuen will give a slideshow of the fascinating native plants and animals photographed during his hiking trips to remotes areas of Kauai and the Big Island over the past year, including treks into mysterious lava tubes and limestone caves. Call Brenda Cowan at 396-6933 or email her at "b.hiker@verizon.net" to let us know what dish you'll be bringing or whether you'll be contributing $7 towards the food. Non-members pay an additional $2 to attend. (Everybody bring your own soda, juice etc) Hope to see you there!

Nov 14 Sun 8:30AM MEMBERS ONLY WAI'ANAE VALLEY LOOP
No meeting @ Palace - Meet at First Hawaiian Bank, Wai'anae
(6 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Valley/Wai'anae)
Something new, something old. We pass ancient lo'i, again producing kalo. Follow a pipeline to the source of the lo'i's water. As we climb to a ridge overlooking Lualualei, the vegetation changes from scrub to rainforest. Looping back from the ridge along an old plantation trail, we pass water tunnels, pre and post contact stone walls. Having crossed half the valley we walk down the paved road to our cars. Coordinator "Wai'anae" Steve Rohrmayr, ph 696-4746.

Nov 21 Sun 8AM LANIPO
(7 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Kaimuki)
Substitute this trail for a workout in Kaimuki instead of indulging yourself at a 24-hour fitness spa. Be one with nature working up a sweat, hiking the many undulating hills, surrounded with scenic panoramic views, culminating with a cool down at the windy summit. Coordinator Ralph Valentino, ph 864-8130.

Nov 27 Sat 8AM HAU'ULA UKA
(6 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Hau'ula)
Big brother to the Hau'ula Trail, this supplemental loop heads towards the Ko'olau Crest, only to pause, double-back, and return to a spot not too far from where it started. Coordinator Dayle Turner, ph 384-4821 or turner@hawaii.edu

Nov 28 Sun 8:30AM MEMBERS ONLY PU'U O KONA
No meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info
(6 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Kuli'ou'ou)
A long loop trail encircling Kuli'ou'ou Valley, starts at the State trailhead, but soon diverges, to ramble and scramble up the steep ridges leading to the Ko'olau Summit. The Summit crossing is narrow and precipitous, looking down upon Waimanalo. The only question is, will it be clockwise or counterclockwise this year?? Coordinator Mike Algiers, ph 422-1048.

Dec 4 Sat 8AM KA'ENA POINT
(4 Mi/Novice/Shoreline/Ka'ena)
Tidal pools compete for interest with an old cane-haul railroad easement on this sunny hike. An automated lighthouse guards the remains of the old one, while native plants carpet the strands and sands of this westernmost point of O'ahu. Be careful of any nesting shorebirds and stay on the path. Watch out for big waves, bring a hat, sunscreen and lots of water. Coordinator Phil Booth, ph 382-4709.

Dec 5 Sun 8AM MANANA DITCH
(8 Mi/Intermediate/Valley-Ridge/Pacific Palisades)
This trail is unfondly referred to by a name which rhymes with ditch, because it's nobody's favorite! There are a seemingly endless array of grueling uphills and steep downhills with many junctions to lead you astray. Watch for those trail ribbons!! Look for an impressive tree with huge buttress roots. Coordinator Arnold Fujioka, ph 625-9431.

Dec 12 Sun 8:30AM MEMBERS ONLY THREE CORNERS
No meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info
(7 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Mokule'ia)
Three valleys meet at Three Corners - Makua, Makaha, and Mokule'ia. To get there takes a long road walk, a steep ridge climb, and a fenceline scramble along the Wai'anae Summit. Coordinator Grant Oka, ph 674-1459.

Dec 19 Sun 8AM MALAEKAHANA POOL
(5 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge-Valley/La'ie)
A close cousin to it's next door neighbor, La'ie Pools, this hike has similar road-walking, and long uphill trudging through eroded gullies and tunnels of guava trees....but the reward is a taller waterfall and a larger plunge pool. If you venture upstream, you may even find a hidden surprise pool, which is a precious gem! Coordinators Kris Corliss and Larry Oswald, ph 638-7268.

Dec 26 Sun 9:00AM MEMBERS ONLY OLOMANA
No meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info
(3 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Olomana)
The annual holiday climb is once again upon us. Rocks to climb and narrow ridgelines with steep dropoffs to traverse. The only question is one, two or three peaks to bag? Coordinator Doug Klein, ph 235-8330.

Jan 1 Sat 8AM KOKO CRATER
(3 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Hawai'i Kai)
Wake up to 2005 on our traditional New Year's Day hike up Koko Crater. The heart-pounding climb and narrow rock rim contrast sharply with the vastness of the Pacific and the whales cavorting below the bright blue of the sky. Coordinator Laura Owens, ph 595-9023.

Jan 2 Sun 8AM PU'U HELEAKALA
(6 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Nanakuli)
A hard scramble up a hot ridge leads to panoramic views of Nanakuli and Lualualei Valleys. Wear sturdy boots and bring plenty of water. Coordinator Peter Kempf, ph 384-2221 or 735-2220.
