A $2.00 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18
or over. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible
adult.
For hikes, we meet at Iolani Palace, mountain side,
at 8 AM unless otherwise noted. For trail maintenance,
call Mabel Kekina, 488-0044. Please sign our release and abide
by our rules.
We do not arrange transportation. However, you are welcome
to arrange your own. You are cautioned not to leave valuables
in parked cars.
Bring lunch and water on all hikes. Wear sturdy shoes and
clothing. Extra caution may be required on some trails. You are
responsible for yourself at all times.
Keep trails and lunch sites free of litter; treat trees and
plants with respect and care. ALWAYS be careful with fire, matches
and cigarettes.
Many of our hikes require special permission. For trails open
to the public, refer to the State Forestry map. Firearms, pets,
radios and other audio devices are prohibited on hikes.

Wear your most comfortable footwear, because this trail is LONG!
Built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it's
pleasantly graded and contoured right up to the Ko'olau Summit.
Watch your step on the narrow sections, and watch the view the

We descend steeply thru native vegetation to the valley below
the 'Aiea Loop Trail, then follow the waters of Kalauao Stream
past a small waterfall. Look for the steep climb out of the valley

One of the club's favorite shoreline hikes. Wear your regular
hiking shoes as we climb up by the Makapu'u Lookout and leave
by the lighthouse road. Possibility of seeing whales and Iwa
birds. The views are great. Bring the binoculars, camera and

If you hanker to visit the highest (and possibly wettest) spot
on O'ahu, come on this arduous climb. Be forewarned that there
are VERY steep and narrow sections, and patches of thorny blackberry
(so bring those gloves!). With nearly constant cloud cover, a
view from the summit is "iffy". Coordinators Kris Corliss

Backpacking through fallow canefields and up to the dryland and
rain forests of Mokule'ia, we arrive at our campsite near the
back of Makua Valley. Day/nite hikes, star gazing, and scintillating
sunsets rule. Water containers to be fetched, toilets to be dug,

Are you too busy (lazy) to do the campout? Then come visit the
backpackers at the Mokule'ia campsite via this terrific contour
trail built by the CCC in 1934. Open cattle pasture transitions
to dry-land forest as we gradually ascend to the Makua Valley

KA'AUMAKUA

Pu'u Ka'aumakua (family deity hill) is the finest panorama on
O'ahu according to HTM legend Al Miller. At 2,681 ft, the peak
towers high above Waikane Valley. We will get to it via a pleasant
valley stroll, a breathtaking climb to the crest of the Ko'olau
Range and a half mile stretch along the fabled Ko'olau Summit

No, we're not climbing to the icy lake on Mauna Kea. Instead,
we'll enjoy a long, hot hike on an ungraded ridge trail at the

A great opportunity to hike were we haven't been as a club for
many years. This cultural access to the valley is sponsored by
Malama Makua under the auspices of the U.S.Army. The purpose
of the event will be educational and informational, and will
include visits to archaeological sites with a cutural emphasis.
