Oct 5 Sat 8AM WAIMANO TUNNELS
(5 Mi/Intermediate/Contour/Pearl City)
After a lovely valley stroll, we go underground through two short, but dark ditch tunnels built in 1912. Those without flashlights may be in for some hard knocks and wet feet. Coordinator Steve Brown, ph 247-8845.

Oct 6 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY PU'U O KONA
No Meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info
(6 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Kuli'ou'ou)
Tired of hiking the Kuli'ou'ou State trail? Here's a variation. We'll circumnavigate the valley, going up the ridge on one side, traversing the narrow Ko'olau Summit (use caution) and descending the opposite ridge. Will it be clockwise or counterclockwise this year? Only the coordinator knows. Coordinator Tom Anderson, ph 922-9675.

Oct 13 Sun 8AM MAKIKI TANTALIZER
(6 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Tantalus)
Like a leisurely luncheon buffet, this sampler of half a dozen Makiki trails delights us with a variety of views and varied terrain. Pay attention to the trail ribbons. Coordinator Sandy Klein, ph 235-8330.

Oct 11-13, Fri afternoon-Sun KA'A'AWA VALLEY FAMILY CAMPOUT
RESERVATIONS REQUIRED

With Mount 'Ohulehule looming in the background and the dark, imposing flanks of Ka'a'awa Valley's east wall opposite the campsite, this place is beautiful. No wonder scenes from Hollywood movies have been filmed here (i.e. Pearl Harbor, Windtalkers, and Godzilla to name a few). Come join us for day hikes in the valley, quality time at Kualoa Beach, star-filled evenings and fellowship around the camp fire. Coordinator Patrick Rorie, ph 676-2748.

Oct 19 Sat 8AM KAWA'EWA'E
(3 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Kane'ohe)
We start in the pleasant Friendship Gardens in residential Kane'ohe with an easy hillside stroll, but soon are scrambling up a steep slope and then skirting along a narrow ledge. The views are great and provide a different perspective on Kane'ohe and the Bay. Coordinator Thea Ferentinos, ph 589-2433.

Oct 19 Sat 6PM CLUBHOUSE - APPRECIATION NIGHT
Our annual Mahalo evening to honor the trail maintenance crew, hike coordinators, directors and committee members is our way of expressing our appreciation for all their kokua. The form of our appreciation is round, flat, and smells great. Get involved and you too may be rewarded with free pizza! Attendance is by invitation only.

Oct 20 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY PU'U MANAMANA
No Meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info
(6 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Ka'a'awa)
NOT for acrophobes or the faint of heart, this is the BIG DOG! It's just as steep and dangerous as it appears from below. Nearly vertical climbs, razor edges, sheer drop-offs, runaway downhills, quaking knees, chattering teeth, and sweaty palms....but stupendous views! Coordinator Mike Algiers, ph 422-1048.

Oct 27 Sun 8AM MOANALUA
(10 Mi/Intermediate/Valley/Moanalua)
An historic road walk leads to a streamside stroll and a steep climb to the Ko'olau summit. From the top you can see the Stairway to Heaven and the Off-ramp to Kane'ohe. Coordinator Dave Sanford, ph 488-4419.

Nov 2 Sat 8AM HAWAI'ILOA RIDGE (All Wahine Hike)
(5 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Hawai'iloa)
Calling all genuine females for this third annual women's only hike. A standard favorite but still a bit of a challenge is this Na Ala Hele trail. Come and relate to your peers to your heart's content. This is stress management, as only women know how to do. Coordinator is Joyce Oka and that's no Joka at 674-1459.

Nov 3 Sun 8AM Oct 7 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY KAHUKU
No Meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info
(12 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Kahuku)
This great old ridge hike has been available to the club since last year. Hike to the KST and lunch at the Pupukea summit with its spectacular views of the North Shore and return the same way. A long but mostly shaded hike. Meet at the La'ie ballpark off Po'ohali St. at 8am, where we meet for the La'ie and Malaekahana hikes. Coordinators Jay Feldman, ph 842-9596 and Wil Kawano, ph 373-1492.

Nov 10 Sun 7AM PU'U HELEAKALA
(6 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Nanakuli)
This hike is a chest heaving, toe jamming, knee cracking, butt wrenching kind of a climb. But hey, the views are great, and the company is sublime. What more could you ask for? Coordinator Fred Dodge, ph 696-4677.

Nov 16 Sat 8AM KALUA'A FAMIY HIKE
(2 Mi/Novice/Contour/Kunia)
Reservations Required - Number of Participants is Limited
The Nature Conservancy offers this new loop hike with cultural sites, the wreck of an old B-24 from WWII, and a number of rare plants, some planted by their habitat restoration project. There is an additional $5 per person reservation fee. The access road is very rough, and requires 4WD vehicles. Coordinator John Hall, ph 377-5442.

Nov 17 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY THREE CORNERS
(7 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Mokule'ia)
Note special rendezvous below.
Our goal on this day is Three Corners, a broad hill on the Wai'anae Range at 2,600 ft elevation where three valleys converge, which features a fabulous panorama of the north shore, Mount Ka'ala, the Leeward Coast and Makua Valley. Getting there is a good workout through dryland forest and along the fenced, rollercoaster Makua Rim. Meet on Farrington Hwy at the beginning of the Mokule'ia Access Rd. Coordinator Patrick Rorie, ph 676-2748.

Nov 23 Sat 7:30AM EAST SIDE ROCK N ROLL

(12 miles/Advanced/East O'ahu)
This high-octane outing starts in Haha'ione Valley and ends in the hills mauka of Kahala Mall. Expect plenty of ups, an equal number of downs, some rocks, and hopefully no rolls. Coordinator Dayle Turner, ph. 247-2656 or email turner@hawaii.edu

Nov 24 Sun 8AM MANANA DITCH
(8 Mi/Intermediate/Valley-Ridge/Pacific Palisades)
This trail has its ups and downs, but the reward for all this crosscountry work is a wide, level path along an abandoned irrigation ditch. The tail end of the trail is exceedingly pleasant. Coordinator Ken Suzuki, ph 845-4691.

Nov 28 Thurs HTMC THANKSGIVING BRING-A-DISH-TO-SHARE
Reservations required. Call the cuisine coordinator Grant at 674-1459. The past few thanksgiving potlucks have been delicious and bountiful, and 2002 should be a repeat. Come early and enjoy the beach and relax. Dinner at 3 pm.

Dec 7 Sat 8AM KA'ENA POINT
(4 Mi/Novice/Shoreline/Ka'ena)
Watch for low flying Albatross on this hike. They nest in this protected area. Whales may be frolicking off shore while you enjoy the sounds of crashing waves along the coastline and the wind in your hair. The tidal pools are very inviting, also. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Coordinator Phil Booth, ph 488-1161.

Dec 8 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY PU'U O KILA
No Meeting @ Palace - Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info

Dec 15 Sun 8AM MT. OLYMPUS
(6 Mi/ Intermediate/Ridge/St. Louis Hts.)
Starting at the towering pines of Wa'ahila State Park, this trail provides a good workout as Wa'ahila Ridge climbs, drops and snakes to the Ko'olau summit. Once past the Kolowalu junction, the trail narrows and the climb gets steeper with drop offs that urge caution. Good weather will permit views of the Windward Coast and Honolulu. Coordinator Grant Oka, ph 674-1459.

Dec 22 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY OLOMANA
(3 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Olomana)
A perennial favorite, the trek up the 1,600 feet of Olomana is our traditional Christmas hike. A rock boulder scramble only adds to the delight of the summit attained. Coordinator Doug Klein, ph 235-8330.

Dec 29 Sun 8AM WAIMALU DITCH
(6 Mi/Intermediate/Valley/Waimalu)
This pleasant hike contours into Waimalu Valley, following a plantation ditch built in 1916. Good swimming holes abound on the stream section, but the best one is at the eighth crossing. Coordinator Stuart Ball, ph 247-5380.

Jan 1 Wed 8AM KOKO CRATER
(3 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Hawai'i Kai)
