A $2.00 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18
or over. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible
adult.
For hikes, we meet at Iolani Palace, mountain side,
at 8 AM unless otherwise noted. For trail maintenance,
call Mabel Kekina, 488-0044. Please sign our release and abide
by our rules.
We do not arrange transportation. However, you are welcome
to arrange your own. You are cautioned not to leave valuables
in parked cars.
Bring lunch and water on all hikes. Wear sturdy shoes and
clothing. Extra caution may be required on some trails. You are
responsible for yourself at all times.
Keep trails and lunch sites free of litter; treat trees and
plants with respect and care. ALWAYS be careful with fire, matches
and cigarettes.
Many of our hikes require special permission. For trails open
to the public, refer to the State Forestry map. Firearms, pets,
radios and other audio devices are prohibited on hikes.

the stalwart adventurer. The hike enables connection with Malaekahana,

A pleasant stroll along the old carriage road only warms you
up for the trek through the forested area with numerous stream
hoppings before you ascend the final flank to a gorgeous spot

This roller coaster of a hike starts in the pine trees of Wa'ahila
State Park with great views of Manoa and Palolo Valleys. Weather
permitting, hikers are rewarded with breath-taking views of the
windward side of the island and a view into hidden Ka'au Crater

Named after the ironwood (casuarina) trees on the ridge, this
hike has good mountain and ocean views. A contour trail leads

KILA

You are required to perspire if you aspire for this spire. In
the midst of Kahana Valley, after the obligatory stream crossings,
comes the ridge ascent, which requires caution in some spots
and stamina in most. Not a hike for the acrophobe. Coordinator

USUAL TURKEY DAY
If you have noplace else to go, join your fellow hikers for an
afternoon at the clubhouse. Swim, relax, whatever, and plan for

A long way to go just for a swim but getting there is most of
the fun. We criss-cross the slippery Kaipapa'u Stream many
times to get to the scenic waterfall and plunge pool. Expect
mud, mosquitoes, slippery rocks, possible flash flood hazard,
possible rock fall hazard, native rain forest plants and pleasant
hiking companions to make this a superb stream hike. Coordinator

This pleasant ramble along the coastline of this state park,
with booming surf and surging tide pools to explore, provides
a different view of O'ahu. Sand dunes, a lighthouse, shoreline
plants, and, if you look at the bushes carefully, you may spot

spot. One thousand feet below lies the green expanse of Makua
Valley leading to the ocean. In back are the dark sheer walls

In the shadow of the Ko'olau mountains where the windward plains
slope to the sea, there is a defiant peak that stands alone,
a challenge in stone. The Olomana hike has three peaks, each
more difficult than the previous. The first two are intermediate;

Veteran HTMers rate this hike as the most difficult one on the
schedule. The climbing is steep, the trail is rough, and the
temperature is either too hot or too cold. To top it off, the
fat francolins seem to mock your efforts all the way up. Coordinator

Start the New Year right with a steep climb of this volcanic
cone, once known as Kohelepelepe (the traveling vagina). Follow
in the footsteps of the pig god Kamapua'a who forsook the fiery

(7 Mi/Intermediate/Ridge/Kaimuki)
This trail has roller coaster ups and downs, but somehow, they
feel mostly like ups (??). It climbs a slippery ridge to the
top of the Ko'olaus, for great views of the Windward side (clouds
permitting), and even a peek into Ka'au Crater along the way.
