During a HTMC hike to Laie's Malaekahana Ridge on March 23, 2008, members Mark Nierode, Clayton Kong, Gay Kong and Larry Lee followed smoke and discovered a fire which they helped to contain until firemen arrived. After the Firemen arrived, the members stayed a while to assist. According to the firemen, the fire was started by a careless camper. The fire was eventually doused with buckets of water from a fire department helecopter.
