Centennial 100 Miles Hike Award - Steve Brown

During our centennial year, we are scheduling many of the trails which the Club first hiked between 1910 & 1940.  These hikes will be indicated on the schedule by a 100-Mi notation, as well as on the centennial calendar.  Note that it has already been necessary to make some changes to the hikes which appear on the calendar.

Celebrate our 100th year by hiking these trails. We will provide a scorecard for you to check off the hikes as you complete them.  The scorecard will show the lengths of the hikes and will have a column to write in your cumulative total miles. The scorecards will be available from the hike coordinators, as well as on our website.

The award is available to club members only.

While the awards will be given only to club members, if you fulfill the requirements for membership in time for your application to be reviewed by the board prior to their December 2010 meeting, and your application is approved, you would be eligible to receive the award.  It’s not necessary to wait until you’ve completed your 3 hikes & had your membership approved by the board to begin ticking off those hikes.

Be sure to sign the usual waiver form to qualify for a particular hike. We may check with the coordinator to make sure you completed the hike, so no cheating!!!

Those who complete a total of 100 miles or more during the year will receive a nifty award, and will have their name published in the newsletter.

The qualifying hikes total more than 300 miles, so it should be easy to accumulate enough mileage, even if you can't make some of the hikes.

Frequently Asked Questions

q. Do the miles hiked HAVE TO come from just this list, or can you count any other hikes the club does throughout the year?

a. Only hikes on the list.

q. Does the hike HAVE TO be with the club?

a. It has to be with the club on the date shown.

q. Does trail maintenance count?

a. Yes.  Write in the date of the TM, but it must be one of the 100-mi designated hikes.

q. Can you count partial miles? Let's say you only make it about halfway on a hike that is 8 miles........can you record 4 miles on your card?

a. We will be flexible, and allow the actual number of miles completed.

q. What is the award?

a. The award will be an embroidered patch, similar to the club patches.

q.What about differences between hikes designated on the printed schedule vs. the scorecard?

a. Some changes have been necessary following the printing of the scorecards.  The printed or on-line schedule and list of 100-Mi hikes and printable scorecard on the website are the most accurate.

q. What about hikes where the write-up shows the date the club first hiked the trail, but there is no 100-Mi designation?

a. Such hikes are not eligible for the award.  The 100-Mi notation must be shown.

q. I've done my 100 miles. How do I apply for an award?

a. Please mail it to the club's PO Box:

HTMC,
PO Box 2238,
Honolulu HI 96804

You could also scan your scorecard and email it to slbrown@hawaii.rr.com.

We will mail the awards to the address we have on the membership list, so if this is not current, be sure to include the correct address.

The deadline for submitting scorecards is Jan 31, 2011.
